Zenfox T3 Review

In 2020, the newest generation of dash cams support three simultaneous video channels that record out of the front and rear windows, as well as the car’s interior. This is a great option especially for taxi and uber drivers, or anyone looking for extra security on the road. Infrared lights are included so you can see what’s happening in the passenger cabin even at night.

Design

As you can see in the photo above, the Zenfox T3 is rather bulky, with an unusual shape for a dash cam. It sticks to the windscreen with an adhesive mount. The interior facing lens is situated at the top of the device, surrounded by 4 infrared LEDs that can illuminate the passenger cabin at night .

Below the interior lens, there’s a 2″ screen, along with 5 buttons that let you navigate the camera’s menu system. The menu is intuitive and easy to operate: The middle button also functions as a lock file button, that lets you mark important footage for saving.

As we’ve mentioned above, the Zenfox also supports Wi-Fi, so you can just as easily navigate its menu using a smart phone app. Downloading clips to your phone is fast.

The front camera can be swiveled to any direction (up, down, left, right, and even diagonally), so you can point it exactly where you need to. The interior camera can be tilted up and down, but not left and right. The rear camera tilts up and down as well.

Video Quality

Just like the Vantrue N4, the Zenfox T3 records up to 1440p with the forward facing camera, and 1080p each with the interior and rear cameras.

Check out our Comparison Table Of 3-Channel Dash Cams to compare prices, video quality, and main specs of the major triple channel dashboard cameras, side by side.

The Zenfox T3 lets you select the cameras’ bit rates. You can choose between low, medium, high, and maximum. High bit rates result in better video quality, but also use more memory.

The sample videos below were recorded at high bit rates. At this setting, the Zenfox’s records good video quality during the day, a bit sharper than the Vantrue N4 which is another 3-channel dash cam that we’ve reviewed recently.

At night though, both the front and rear cameras of the Zenfox T3 record rather mediocre video. It’s very hard to make out other cars’ license plates.

The interior camera does well both at day and at night. You can always see what’s going on in the passenger cabin, and the footage is clear enough to identify passengers.

Parking Mode

The T3 supports time-lapse and simple parking modes, provided you power the camera using the Zenfox hard-wiring kit (available separately).

  • In time-lapse mode, the 3 cameras record continuously at 1 frame per second (fps), thus saving memory space.
  • In simple mode, the camera wakes up and starts recording when an impact is detected by the inbuilt G-sensor (also called impact-triggered parking mode).

Other Features

A built-in GPS receiver allows you to record your speed and coordinates.

Up to 256 GB memory cards are supported. We recommend getting the largest size memory card you can get hold of, especially if you’re planning to record at high bit rates. With 3 video channels, the file sizes quickly add up.

  • At maximum bit rate, the T3 will record a total of 568MB/min with its 3 channels. Thus, a 256GB card can hold about 7.5 hours of video.
  • At its minimum setting, the total recorded bit rate sums up to 240MB/min for the 3 channels, so a 256GB card will hold about 18 hours.

The rear camera is optional. You can save some $50 if you order only the front device (front & interior channels only).

Conclusion

The Zenfox T3 is an excellent option for any taxi and Uber drivers out there, or anyone who wishes to record their passengers as well as the road ahead and behind. Its video quality is slightly better than the Vantrue N4’s, and you get Wi-Fi and GPS included for a similar price.

Zenfox T3 Video Samples

For full original video quality, make sure to watch on full screen and select maximum video resolution (use the cog icon in lower right corner). You may have to rewind the video after changing the resolution.

Front Video Sample, Day

Video quality during the day is good. You can clearly read the license plates of overtaking or overtaken cars by pressing pause. Video courtesy of The Little Camera Channel

Front Video Sample, Night

At night, video quality is only fair. It is hard or impossible to read the license plates of most other cars. That being said, you can still clearly see what’s going on on the road ahead of you. Video courtesy of Jeremy Wong

Rear Video Sample, Day

Rear video quality at day is good, too. Just as with the front camera, you can read most license plates of nearby cars, if necessary by pausing the footage. Video courtesy of The Little Camera Channel

Rear Video Sample, Night

Rear video at night is mediocre. It is not possible to read any license plates, even when slowly driving by parked cars. Video courtesy of Jeremy Wong

Interior Video Sample, Day

Interior video is very good at day time. All details are clearly visible. Video courtesy of The Little Camera Channel

Interior Video Sample, Night

At night, the interior video feed is of good quality. You can see everything cleary, even though the picture is slightly blurry. Video courtesy of Jeremy Wong
