Do These Dash Cams Record Good Video?
As you may know if you’ve been following us for a while, we do extensive video quality reviews with each of the dash cams we recommend. We carefully analyze how each camera performs, by day as well as by night. Every product is thus assigned a video score, ranging from 0 to 5 (5 being best).

One thing you should know: No dash cam has ever reached the top score. One reason for that is that we have high standards… but the technical reason is, that we evaluate the performance of each camera separately, both by day and by night.
The overall video score is the average of these numbers. At day, some cameras achieve the top score, but dash cams don’t have perfect night vision (so far, at least). So at night, the best score has been 4 out of 5 (the A229 Plus and Pro cameras, which are also featured below).
So, let’s get started with the dash cams with the best video quality:
Viofo A119M Pro – Single Channel Dash Cam
Prime Deal price: $133 on Amazon right now, used to be $160 (you save 17%)
Our video score: 4.25/5
Video is excellent at day, good to very good at night. Viofo is the top brand right now in terms of video quality, and this is probably the best single-channel dash cam they’ve made so far.
The A119M Pro records only to the front of your car, though. Want to record front and rear? Check this one out:
Viofo A229 Plus 2CH (Front And Rear Dash Cam)
Also from Viofo. Looks quite similar, doesn’t it? The rear camera is small and compact, and you connect it to the front camera with a long coaxial cable that you can hide behind your cars interior lining. (It’s easy, a simple trim tool for that is included).
Prime Big Deal Days Price: $160 on Amazon today. It’s down from $210, so you save 24% if you choose to go for this one.
And it’s a great choice.

Front video quality is very good across the board, and rear video at day is very good as well. Only at night, the rear video quality leaves a bit to be desired.
So that’s a 2-channel dash cam (2CH). Want to record the inside of your car, also? Try a 3-channel dash cam like this one:

The front unit has an extra lens to the side, that records infrared at night so you get black and white video even when the cabin lights aren’t on. (How cool is that?!)
This camera is $285 on Amazon during the Prime Big Deal Days. Down 21%, from $360 — so you save a whopping 75 bucks!
Video quality: 4.0/5
So it’s video quality is impressive also. This is the best 3-channel (3CH) dash cam we’ve tested so far.
Viofo have a cool 3CH dash cams as well:
Viofo A229 Pro 3-Channel Dash Cam
This one has a separate interior (infrared) camera, so you can place it wherever you want.
Price today is $250 on Amazon. That’s 60 bucks down from $310, almost 20% less!
Video quality: 3.7/5
So this one is almost as good as the 70mai T800. The A229 Pro 3CH takes a little bit longer to install, because there’s a separate interior camera and so there’s one more cable you need to connect.
Want even more channels? How about a 4-channel dash cam:
Vantrue N5S 4-Channel Dash Cam
The Prime Big Deal price for this one is $310 on Amazon (instead of $360 previously, so you save 14% here).
This camera consists of 2 units. The main unit, you install on the front window (windshield), and the rear unit goes on the rear window (obviously). Each unit has two lenses, one to record outside the car and another one with infrared, to record the cabin.
Video quality: 3.0/5.
Maybe you like the idea of having 4 video channels, but the Vantrue N5S is a bit more than you can afford right now? Then here’s a much more affordable one for you:
Pruveeo D90 4-Channel Dash Cam
Deal price: $105 on Amazon these days, down from $130. You save 19%.
Video quality: 2.0/5
You get what you pay for, so the Pruveeo D90’s video quality isn’t quite as good as the Vantrue N5S’s.

The price of this one is $374 on Amazon today. Normally, it costs about $400, but on Prime Big Deals day it’s 6.5% off.

Redtiger F7NT Front And Rear Dash Cam With Touch Screen
This camera is one of the absolute top sellers. (And no, the phone is not included!)
During Prime Big Deal days, it’s only $114 on Amazon (down from $140, so that’s a discount of 18.5%).
Video quality: 2.3/5
Not as good as some of the others here, but it’s nonetheless very popular.
Another absolute top seller is this one:
Rove R2-4K Dual Front And Rear Dash Cam
Prime Big Deals Day price:$108 on Amazon. It’s usually $150, so that’s 28% off.
Video quality: 2.0/5
Be aware this is not a true 4K dash cam, it uses upscaling to achieve 4K resolution. (We have a big article about true and fake 4K dash cams if you’re curious.)
But people really love the Rove, it’s one of the best selling dash cams on Amazon! Why? Honestly, we’re not quite sure. They definitely have good marketing!

Deal price: Only $30 on Amazon. Usually it’s about $33, so it’s not a huge reduction at 9% off.
Video quality: 2.5/5
This is hands down the most affordable decent dashboard camera, and it’s video quality isn’t all that bad for the price.
The next one records 4K video, and only costs a few dollars more:

Price today: $38 on Amazon, down from $50 so that’s 24% off.
Video quality: 2.9/5
And last, but not least: A taxi cam. This one records to the front and inside the car, great if you’re a taxi / uber / ride share driver!
Vantrue N2X – Taxi Cam With Infrared Interior Recording
The front and interior lenses of the Vantrue N2X are in the same unit, so it’s a lot easier to set up than a 3-channel dash cam.
Price: $168 on Amazon today (used to be $180, that’s 7% less).
