Mini 0805 Review
Released in November of 2014, the Mini 0805 is a recent addition to the popular Chinese Mini 080x series. With an improved lens and a different processor, this stealthy dash cam notably improves video quality in comparison to its predecessors, the Mini 0801 and Mini 0803, while keeping the series’ trademark outer design with its 1.5″ screen and optional GPS sensor integrated in the camera’s foot.
Video quality of the Mini 0805 is very good both at day and at night time, running at high resolutions such as 2304×1296 @ 30fps, 2560x1080p @ 30fps, or 1920x1080p @ 45 or 30fps. Night video quality is especially impressive. This camera produces better night videos than all other dash cams of its price range, and can even compete with some more expensive cameras.
The Mini 0805 uses the same casing as the Mini 0801/0803, which has been highly popular due to its small size, attractive form factor and easy of handling. The only things that are visibly different from the outside are the lens and the connection to the camera’s mount.
Internally, the AR0330 sensor that the Mini 0803 used has been upgraded to an Omnivision O4689 sensor, allowing for a better image. Also, the Mini 0805 uses an Ambarella A7LA50 chip instead of the Mini 0803’s A7LA50D.
The mount has been upgraded as well, allowing for a tighter fit. Previous mounts had proven to become a bit wobbly over time. The (optional) GPS unit is still located in the mount, as is typical for the Mini 080x series. If you don’t need GPS, you can save a few bucks by getting a mount without GPS.
Overheating issues have been reduced. The Mini 0805 runs much cooler than its predecessors, which will allow for a better reliability in warm climates.
Like all modern dash cams, this device obviously has loop recording, date/time/speed stamp, and auto on/off function. A G-sensor marks files for keeping when an impact is detected. Additionally, the Mini 0805 has a Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) and a Forward Collision Warning System (FCWS), both of which can be turned off if you don’t need them.
Supporting memory cards up to 128GB, this device will record more than 19 hours of video footage at its maximum bit rate of 13 Mbps. The actual bit rate may vary depending on your selected video resolution and quality. Note that for card sizes larger than 32GB, it is recommended to format the cards with the FAT32 file system.
All in all, this is a great buy for below $100. Video quality is better than what other cameras in this price range have to offer. Night video quality can even compete with the DOD LS460W which costs a lot more. However, at day time, the DOD flagship is still better.

Mini 0805 Video Samples
For full original video quality, make sure to watch on full screen and select maximum video resolution (use the cog icon in lower right corner). You may have to rewind the video after changing the resolution.
Day Time Video Sample
Day Time video is crisp and clear. The footage is very good quality, letting you read signs and license plates even driving by at medium to long distance.
Night Time Video Sample
Night time footage is also very good, better than most other dash cams. Note how easy it is to discern other cars’ license numbers, even at medium distance.
