Viofo’s Remote Bluetooth Button: BTR200

BTR200 remote Bluetooth button In the summer of 2024, Viofo released a new remote button for their dashboard cameras. The main difference to the previous remote button is that the new button, called BTR200, has 2 more keys.

The big key, labeled with a large yellow triangle, still serves as an “emergency” button to save the current video from becoming overwritten when the camera’s loop recording kicks in. What’s new is that there are also two smaller buttons on the side.

One is intended to mute the microphone (or unmute it), and the other is an action button that can be set to perform any one of 6 possible actions. In fact, you change the mute button to any of these six actions, as well.

The 6 available actions are the following:

  • Turn the microphone on/off
  • Take a photo
  • Turn WiFi on/off
  • Power down the dash cam
  • Switch to time lapse recording
  • Turn HDR on/off

You can assign these actions to each of the buttons through the dash cam’s menu, or through the mobile app. The default setting for the action button is to toggle WiFi.

Viofo are planning to add more cameras to this list as they work on the corresponding firmwares.

Your camera may need a firmware update before all of the BTR200’s functions are available. You can check for the latest firmware on Viofo’s web site (no extra cost).

How To Pair The BTR200 Button With Your Dash Cam

The button connects to the camera over Bluetooth. Pairing is very simple: Make sure the dash cam is powered on, with active Bluetooth. Then hold the main button (the one with the yellow triangle) on the BTR200 down for 3 seconds.

When the LED on the button turns blue, the button is paired to the camera.

Size, Weight, Range

The remote button weighs 10g (.35oz) and measures 33 x 33 x 11mm (1.3 x 1.3 x .43″).

To have it function reliable, you should install it within 5m (16.4ft) of the dash camera. That’s the maximum range Bluetooth will work over according to the manufacturer.
