Comparison Of The Viofo A329S To The Viofo A329

The A329S is Viofo’s new flagship camera in the premium price segment. Key upgrades from the A329 are the addition of a third video channel, and the extended field of view of the interior camera.

Since we already have a very extensive review of the Viofo A329, here we’ll only go over the differences quickly, then do a short recap of what stays the same. And finally, we’ll take look at the impressive video quality of the A329S.

What’s New: Differences Between A329S And A329

  1. The A329S supports 3 video channels. The A329 supported only two: A front, and a rear camera. The A329S adds one more channel.
  2. The 3rd channel will generally be an interior camera with infrared LEDs that illuminate the cabin at night, although other options are available too.
  3. The interior camera of the A329S has a fish eye lens. Thus, it records not only the passenger cabin, but also the view through the side windows. This feature is a unique feature among the many dash cams we have reviewed so far.
  4. Alternative options for the 2nd and 3rd channels include: A telephoto camera and a waterproof rear camera (great for trucks etc.)
  5. The HDMI port that the A329 had has been discontinued, making room for the extra video channel port.

What Stays The Same

The A329S retains all the standout features of the A329, including:

  1. Up to 4 Terabytes (TB) of external storage. Make sure to get a compatible SSD. Western Digital, Samsung T7 Shield, and Sandisk Extreme are confirmed to work well with the A329 series
  2. Quad-band GPS: GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, Beiduo
  3. Low power parking mode (can’t record to SSD in this mode though)
  4. Wi-Fi 6 — about 3x faster than legacy Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi 5)
  5. Voice commands
  6. Front CPL filter included
  7. Optional rear CPL
  8. Pretty much all other features of the A329 are also present in the A329S, except where otherwise mentioned

Comparison A329S Vs. A229 Pro

The main difference here is that the front channel of the A329S records at a higher bit rate (66Mbps) when in 3CH mode. When the A229 Pro is used with 3 video channels, the bit rate of the front channel is reduced from 60 to 36 Mbps.

So unlike the A229 Pro, the quality of the main (front) video channel of the A329S is not reduced when you add a 3rd channel camera. This is due to the increased processing power (better hardware) of the A329S.

Another very noticeable difference is the fish eye effect of the interior camera that allows you to see through the side windows. Also, the rear camera of the A329S performs better at night than the A229 Pro’s.

Of course, the A229 Pro is noticeably less expensive than the A329S. So if the cost of the A329S is an issue, the A229 Pro is an excellent choice in the upper mid-price sector.

Alternative Secondary Cameras

For the 2nd and 3rd video channel, the “default” A329S configuration is a rear camera, and an internal camera with infrared.

Alternatively, Viofo have a waterproof rear camera and a telephoto camera on offer. The waterproof camera is intended for installation on the outside of the vehicle, which is useful if you don’t have a rear window (e.g. in a truck).

The telephoto camera, on the other hand, records the road ahead. It allows you to more easily capture license plates at a distance.

Any combination of these would work, for example you could get two waterproof cameras and mount them anywhere inside or outside your vehicle (as long as the cable is long enough).

At this time, only the configuration with one rear & one fisheye interior camera is available on Amazon if you’re ordering the whole 3CH package.

User Manual

The user manual for the Viofo A329S is available in English, Chinese, and German. The English version is 67 pages long, and of excellent quality.

Viofo A329S Sample Videos & Quality Assessment

For full original video quality, make sure to watch on full screen and select maximum video resolution (use the cog icon in lower right corner). You may have to rewind the video after changing the resolution.

Our video scores go from 0 (poor) to 5 (excellent). For an explanation of video scores check the annotations below the comparison tables.

Front Video Sample, Day

Forward video quality during the day is very good (4.0/5). You can read license plates of other cars just driving by.

Front Video Sample, Night

Forward video at night is also very good (4.0/5). Again, you can read license plates of other cars without any problem.

Rear Video Sample, Day

Rear video at day is also very good (4.0/5).

Rear Video Sample, Night

As is to be expected, rear video at night is a bit weaker than the others. We can read the license plate of the car behind us easily, but with the other cars, it’s hit and miss. Our verdict: Night rear video quality is good (3.0/5).

Interior Video Sample, Day & Night

Interior video at day is excellent. The pronounced fish eye effect takes some getting used to, but it allows us to see every detail of the passenger cabin and provides a complete view through the driver’s and passengers side windows. Score: 5.0/5

Night interior footage starts at time stamp 25:40, and its video quality is very good (4.0/5). Again, we can see all the details, except obviously that it’s in black and white due to the infrared illumination. We also have a clear view through both side windows at night.

Total Video Score

Our total video score for the Viofo A329S is 3.8/5. This is the best score any 3-channel dash cam has reached so far.

You can see the video scores of other dash cams in our 3-channel dash cam overview table.

Conclusion

As of September 2025, the Viofo A329S is the dash cam with the best video quality. This is true both in 2CH and 3CH modes of operation.

Its only drawback is the lack of cloud support, a feature offered by most other major brands.

External SSD support is a plus: With the high bit rates of this camera, memory cards will fill up relatively quick.

Wi-Fi 6 is another excellent feature to have. As video file sizes increase, the increase in transmission speed (3x compared to Wi-Fi 5) is more than welcome.

All in all, this is an excellent premium dash cam with many cutting-edge features, and outstanding video quality.

Pros:

  • Very good video quality overall
  • Up to 4TB external SSD
  • Wi-Fi 6 (3x faster download speed)
  • Quad-band GPS
  • Reliable brand
  • Fish eye interior lens (default for the 3rd channel)
  • Supports various alternative camera configurations (telephoto, water proof, fish eye IR)

Cons:

  • No cloud
  • High price
