Anker Roav C1 Review

The Anker Roav C1 is the first dash cam produced by the well-known Chinese company, Anker. Unlike many other Chinese vendors, Anker have an excellent reputation for their outstanding customer support. They offer email support around the world, plus phone support for selected countries, including the US, UK, Japan, and Germany. I believe Anker are the first dash cam manufacturer that actually offer telephone support.

The camera itself maintains a low profile due to its stealthy wedge shape. One side of the camera sticks directly to the windshield via an adhesive pad — no need for a bulky mount. Its build quality is solid, with metal used for the edges and high quality materials used throughout.

The video quality of the Roav C1 is good, but not great. It records 1080p at 30fps, however compared to dash cams like the Viofo A119, the Roav C1’s footage could be a bit sharper. While colors are vivid, license plates are sometimes hard to make out in the video feed, especially at night. That being said, video quality is still good at day, and fair at night time.

An advantage that this camera has over most other dash cams of its price class is its simple, impact-triggered parking mode. Again unlike most other dashboard cameras, it isn’t necessary to hard-wire the Anker Roav for this to work: Its parking mode is powered via the camera’s internal 470mAh battery.

Whenever an impact is detected, the camera comes alive to record 30 seconds of video. According to the manufacturer, the Roav’s battery is large enough to record up to 30 of these videos. A downside is that after the impact, the camera takes about 7 seconds to come alive, so there is a chance that your perpetrator will already be gone in the meantime. Also, note that you need to manually activate parking surveillance in the camera’s menu.

The Roav C1 is Wi-Fi capable, so you can control it from and download video clips to your smart phone. Apps are available for Android and iOS.

To sum it up, while this camera doesn’t have the best video quality for its price range, it has a lot going for it, including a great build quality and top-notch customer support. Its simple parking mode is another plus, however the rather large battery that powers it means the Anker Roav is also susceptible to heat issues in warmer climates. If you’re living in a hot region, consider a capacitor-based dash cam instead.

Anker Roav C1 Video Samples

For full original video quality, make sure to watch on full screen and select maximum video resolution (use the cog icon in lower right corner). You may have to rewind the video after changing the resolution.

Day Time Video Sample

Day time video quality is good, with vivid colors. License plates of nearby cars are easily readable when pausing the video. (Note that the Roav logo in the upper left corner can be disabled in the camera’s menu if you wish.)

Night Time Video Sample

Night video quality is fair. License plates of other cars are sometimes readable when close, but often they get washed out by trailing cars’ headlights.
