Vantrue N4 Pro S Review
In mid-2025, Vantrue released the latest iteration of their Nexus series, called N4 Pro S. This is the first 3-channel dash cam we’ve reviewed that supports cloud connectivity, meaning you can connect to it with your phone over the internet if you set it up with Vantrue’s LTE module (not included).
Its rear camera is waterproof, so you can mount it on the outside of a vehicle like a truck or pickup that doesn’t have rear windows or where mounting the camera on the rear window isn’t practical.
The N4 Pro S records very good video during the day, on all 3 channels. At night, video quality is a mixed bag: The front camera performs great too, but the interior and rear cameras do leave a bit to be desired. Check the video samples featured below for more details.
Design
But first, let’s see what the camera looks like from the driver-facing side:
On the left, we have a fairly large (3.19″) screen. Buttons to operate the menus are located underneath, and a big orange power button is situated on the left. Short press the power button to mark a video for safe keeping (lock file button).
The interior camera is located on the right-hand side, and you can manually rotate it up to 45 degrees either up or down.
Since the front and interior cameras are in one unit, this is a camera that’s relatively easy to set up. The most challenging part is tucking the cable that connects the rear camera behind the car’s interior lining. A pry tool is included to facilitate this.
The N4 Pro’s mount attaches to the wind-shield with an adhesive sticker. However, some users have complained that it can fall off when the temperatures are very high. A suction cup mount is also included for convenience, in case you prefer a temporary installation (e.g. in a rental car).
Video Quality
As you can see in the samples provided below, the video quality of the Vantrue N4 Pro S is very good during the day, but mixed at night.
While the front camera performs great at night also, the rear and interior cameras don’t do quite as well.
Our overall video score for the N4 Pros S is 3.2/5. See how it compares to other 3-channel dash cams in our 3CH dash cam comparison table.
Video Samples Of The Vantrue N4 Pro S, All 3 Channels Day & Night
Our video scores go from 0 (poor) to 5 (excellent). For a detailed explanation of video scores, check the annotations below the comparison table.
Front Video Sample, Day
Forward video at day is very good (4.0/5). You can read most license plates just as you are coasting by.
Front Video Sample, Night
Front video at night is also very good (4.0/5). We can read license plates without pausing the video.
Rear Video Sample, Day
Rear video at day: Very good (4.0/5) as well. We can read some license plates driving by, which is very good for a rear camera.
Rear Video Sample, Night
At night, it gets difficult for the rear camera. We can see what’s happening and where the other cars are going, but it’s impossible to read any license plates. Video quality: Mediocre (1.0/5)
Interior Video Sample, Day
Interior video at day is very good (4.0/5). Bear in mind this is a low bit rate parking mode recording, and you can still see every detail.
Interior Video Sample, Night
Interior video at day is fair (2.0/5). Footage is rather dark, and the IR LEDs don’t do a great job of illuminating the passenger cabin. You can see the passengers faces and what they’re doing, but the view isn’t very detailed.
Parking Mode
When powered by a hard-wiring kit or a battery pack, the N4 Pro S supports the following parking modes:
- Buffered (motion detection): Runs continuously. When it detects an event, it saves videos from 10s before to 30s after. User can specify which area in the picture can trigger recording.
- Collision detection: Wakes the camera up after an impact. This is the most energy efficient parking mode.
- Low bit rate: 1080p at 15fps (ok), or 720p at 15fps (not recommended)
- Time-lapse: 1, 5, 10, or 15fps
You can configure whether to use all three channels in parking mode, only two channels (front + interior or front + rear), or only the front camera.
We like that the N4 Pro S lets you adjust detection zones in buffered parking mode. This way, you can set the camera up so that it focuses on events on the road, while ignoring background motion such as trees swaying the wind.
User Manual
The user manual of the Vantrue N4 Pro S is available in English, Spanish, Chinese, Russian, French, German, Italian, and several other languages. The English translation is not the best, but at least it’s mercifully brief at just 42 pages.
Other Features
This camera supports voice commands. So it understands spoken instructions like “take picture”, “lock the video”, or “turn Wi-Fi on/off”.
PlatePix (TM) is a Vantrue-trademarked technology that improves license plate readability. We didn’t find that it makes a huge difference, but it does seem to make license plates a bit clearer.
Dual-band GPS: Both GPS and BeiDou (Chinese) satellite signals are used for geo-positioning, improving accuracy. (The technically correct term is not dual-band GPS but dual-constellation GNSS receiver.)
The N4 Pro S supports a privacy mode. This means that loop recording is limited to 3 files. After the 3rd cycle, the 1st file gets overwritten, unless you marked it for safe keeping with the lock file button (or spoken command).
Additionally, in privacy mode, when the dash cam is turned off, all video files are deleted except the ones you explicitly marked for safe keeping (if any).
We find privacy mode an interesting feature for anyone who doesn’t want to keep a record of all their travels accessible. In some regions, this may also be mandated by data protection laws.

Conclusion
Vantrue’s N4 Pro S, released in 2025, records significantly better video than Vantrue’s previous 3CH dash cam systems. With its support for cloud connectivity, Wi-Fi, dual-band GPS, and 4 different parking modes, we recommend the N4 Pros S especially for those who drive mainly during the day.
Its waterproof rear camera makes it a perfect choice for truck drivers, and anyone intending to install the rear unit on the outside of the vehicle.
The Viofo A229 Pro records better video overall (especially at night), but it doesn’t support cloud connectivity, nor does it come with a waterproof rear camera.
Pros:
- Easy setup and use
- Privacy mode
- Waterproof rear camera
- Buffered parking mode (with hard wiring kit)
- Cloud support (with LTE module)
Cons:
- Mediocre rear video at night
- Some users have reported the camera falling off the windscreen when it gets very hot in the car
