70mai A500S Review
The 70mai A500S, or 70mai Pro Plus as it is also known, is an affordable front and rear dash cam of Chinese origin. First released in 2021, it supports a basic parking mode if installed with the (optional) hard wiring kit.
The A500S is fairly small and comes in a stealthy wedge shape, so it should be barely noticeable behind your windshield to a casual onlooker.
It comes with a 2″ screen and 4 buttons, so it can easily be controlled that way. It also supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, so if you prefer, you can manage the camera via your (Android or iOS) smart phone.
GPS is built-in, so you can see your speed and coordinate tags in the video feed.
The forward camera’s maximum resolution is 2592×1944, which is a 4:3 format. For dash cams, we prefer wider formats to taller ones, so we recommend you run the forward camera at 2560x1440p (which is 16:9).
The rear camera records at 1080p, which is also a 16:9 format.
Video Quality
Video quality for the front camera is okay for the price. The rear camera leaves a bit to be desired, especially at night.
Basic Parking Mode
If you install the camera with the optional hard wiring kit, you can run the A500S in parking mode. If an impact is detected while the car is off, the camera will wake up and record a video clip. When you return to your car, you’ll receive a voice notification informing you that an event was recorded.
Other Observations
The 70mai Pro Plus user manual is very basic, sporting around 10 pages for the English version. There are QR codes included though that will point you to more detailed instructions for the camera’s functions if you need them.
Conclusion
The 70mai A500S Pro Plus is a decent low-cost dash cam that covers the basics. It seems to be reliable, and video quality is okay for the price.
A single channel (forward camera only) version of this camera is also available.
If you are looking for basic dash cam protection for the lowest price, the A500S is a good option.

For full original video quality, make sure to watch on full screen and select maximum video resolution (use the cog icon in lower right corner). You may have to rewind the video after changing the resolution.
Day Time Front Video Sample
Day time forward video quality is good. You can read other cars’ license plates when close.
Day Time Rear Video Sample
Rear video at day is fair. It does look a bit blurry, but you’ll be able to read nearby cars’ license plates if you pause the video.
Night Time Front Video Sample
Night time video quality is fair for the front camera. You can read license plates when standing at a traffic light, but it’s not possible to read them when driving by other cars.
Night Time Rear Video Sample
Rear video at night is mediocre. You do get a basic idea of what’s going on behind your car though.
