Pruveeo D90-4CH Review

This is a low-cost 4 channel dash cam, with 3 cameras in the front unit and a separate, waterproof rear camera that can be mounted either inside the rear window, or outside the vehicle.

The front unit has a forward facing camera, and one camera each on the left and right sides. These side cameras can be turned all the way to the back, so you can point them to record either the passenger windows, or the interior of the car. You can also set them up so you have a 360 degree view all around.

Rotating cameras are useful if for example something happens on the driver’s side (e.g. police stop). You can turn the corresponding camera towards it, while still recording what’s going on in front of and behind the vehicle with the other cams.

Design

Pruveeo D90-4CH rotating side camerasWith a size of 5.98″ x 4.6″ 1.69″, the front unit is quite large compared to other dash cams, and not exactly inconspicuous. This makes sense though, considering it houses not one, but 3 cameras.

The left and right lenses can be turned all the way back, and you can also rotate them up and down 360 degrees. So you can essentially point them anywhere you want. For example, you can set them to record the left and right passenger windows when needed, or the interior of the car.

Both the left and right camera lenses are equipped with infrared (IR) lights and sensors, so you can record the cabin at night without switching on the car’s interior light.

The front camera also swivels up and down, as well as left and right (though not as far as the side cameras).

A 3″ screen on the front unit lets you review video on the spot, and the 5 buttons below it allow you to navigate the menus and edit the camera’s settings. You can also operate it over Wi-Fi with an Android or iOS phone.

Video Quality

The front camera records good (3/5) video at day, and fair (2/5) video at night. During the day, you should be able to read nearby cars’ license plates, if necessary by pausing the video. At night, it’s more of a hit and miss.

Viewing the video feed of the left and right cameras, it looks darker and less colorful than footage of the front camera. If you turn them to record outside the vehicle, their performance is fair during the day, and mediocre at night.

The side cameras do a decent job of recording the passenger cabin at night, due to the 4 IR LEDs around each of the lenses. Cabin video quality is fair (2/5), day and night.

The rear camera could be more focused. It’s video just doesn’t look particularly sharp. Its performance is fair (2/5) during the day, and mediocre (1/5) at night. You’ll still be able to read the license plate of a car stopped right behind you, but not of cars driving behind you.

Our total video score for the Pruveeo D90-4CH is 2.0/5. Use this score to compare it to other 4 channel dash cams in our comparison tables. You’ll also find an explanation of our video scores there.

Time-Lapse Parking Mode

While the D90-4CH supports two different parking modes, the manufacturer recommends using time-lapse mode.

In time lapse mode, the dash cam records at 1 fps (frame per second) when the engine is off. Like all dash cams, it needs a hard-wiring kit or a battery pack for parking mode to work.

The other parking mode option available is “gravity” (G-sensor triggered) parking mode. However, this gravity mode requires you to adjust the sensitivity of the G-sensor to “high” when you park, and back to “low” when you’re driving. You’d have to do this manually, which is obviously rather inconvenient and can easily be forgotten.

Waterproof Rear Camera

This is one of very few dash cams that comes with a waterproof rear camera, so you can mount it either inside or outside the vehicle. Mounting it outside is a great option for trucks that don’t have a rear window per se.

Memory Card

A free V30 Speed 128GB micro SD card is included with the camera. Remember to format the card in the camera before first use.

The dash cam also supports 256GB memory cards. It has to be a V30 speed card though, regular class 10 cards won’t work.

User Manual

The Pruveeo D90-4CH user manual is 32 pages long. The translation to English is not the best, but it’s understandable and explains all the dash cam’s functions.

Conclusion

A good low-cost solution if you want to cover as many angles as possible. Don’t expect great video quality from this device though. The manufacturer definitely cut costs wherever they could. That said, the Pruveeo D90-4CH does the job, and it comes with all the minimum features expected of a modern dash cam.

Pros:

  • Rotating left and right cameras can face any desired direction
  • IR lights for cabin recording at night
  • Free 128GB memory card
  • Waterproof rear camera

Cons:

  • Low video quality
  • No CPL filter
  • No lock file button
