BlackVue DR750X-2CH Plus Review

The BlackVue DR750X-2CH Plus is one of the most advanced front and rear dash cams in 2022. It records at 1080p resolution, both ways. The rear camera records at a standard 30 frames per second (fps), while the forward camera records at a stunning 60fps. This increased frame rate makes for much smoother video.

Additionally, the DR750X Plus supports cutting-edge features. Wi-Fi and GPS are obviously supported, as well as three different parking modes, and connectivity to a cloud which is by far the most advanced one on the market. BlackVue’s cloud features include live video streaming, impact notifications to your phone, video backup, live GPS tracking, and more.

Design

The “X” series (DR750X and DR900X) keeps BlackVue’s elegant and discreet cylinder shape that the brand is so famous for. The dash cam itself has no screen, so you control it mainly with your smart phone.

As usual, free apps are available for Android and iOS.

DR750X Plus vs. DR750X

The DR750X Plus has the same casing as the DR750X. The only visible difference is that the single channel version (DR750X-1CH Plus) now also has a port for the rear camera, so you can upgrade it to dual-channel at a later time if desired.

A key difference to the “regular” DR750X is that the DR750X Plus uses an upgraded Sony STARVIS sensors. This results in better exposure, which we found has a positive impact on video quality. Especially night video is improved.

Video Quality

The BlackVue DR750X-2CH Plus records very good video with the forward camera, and good video to the rear. This is true both for day time and night time recording.

In the age of 4K dash cams, a resolution of 1080p may not seem like much. However, having less pixels results in better light sensitivity, because the individual pixels are larger. This also contributes to the DR750X Plus’s impressive performance at night.

One more advantage of having a lower resolution is that the video files are smaller, so they take up less bandwidth when transmitting to the cloud.

Cloud Connectivity / Optional LTE module

The DR750X series comes with native cloud capability. You can either connect it via Wi-Fi to a separate internet access point in your car, or you can get BlackVue’s 4G LTE module (sold separately), which plugs right into the camera.

For more information on how to connect a dash cam to the cloud, refer to this article.

BlackVue’s cloud is arguably the most advanced on the dashboard camera market, and it offers more features than any of its competitors. With a free cloud account, you get:

  • 10 minutes live video streaming per day
  • a 5 GB cloud account to backup videos
  • event notifications to your phone from your parked car
  • live GPS tracking
  • two-way voice communication with the driver
  • live event auto-upload

With a paid account, you get even more features, such as support for multiple dash cams, fleet management, and more.

Paid accounts start at $12 per month. Check out BlackVue’s cloud page for all the details.

Parking Modes

Like the previous BlackVue models, the DR750X Plus is capable of buffered, time-lapse, and impact-triggered parking modes. A power supply like a hard-wiring kit or a battery pack is necessary for the camera to run when the engine is off.

Conclusion

The DR750X Plus offers cutting-edge parking mode and cloud features, plus it records great video that is especially impressive at night.

This, together with its elegant and stealthy design, makes it one of the best high-end dashboard cameras available in 2022.

BlackVue DR750X-2CH Plus Video Samples

For full original video quality, make sure to watch on full screen and select maximum video resolution (use the cog icon in lower right corner). You may have to rewind the video after changing the resolution.

Front Video Sample (Day & Night)

Forward video is very good, both at day and at night. Most license plates of other cars are easily readable, even when driving by.

Day Time Rear Video Sample

Rear video quality at day is good. License plates of other cars can be read by pausing the video.

Night Time Rear Video Sample

Rear video at night is also good. Again, license plates of nearby cars are easy to read, even though you may have to pause the video to do so.

Variants

BlackVue offer quite a number of variants of the DR750X-2CH Plus that add some functionality. Here’s a quick overview to show you what’s available:

DR750X-1CH Plus

Single channel version (forward camera only)

DR750X-2CH LTE Plus

An LTE module is built into the dash cam, so no external module is required to connect to the cloud. Only a SIM card is necessary.

DR750X-2CH IR Plus

Taxi cam version: The rear camera comes with infrared LEDs to illuminate and record the passenger cabin at night.

DR750X-2CH Truck Plus

The rear camera is contained in a waterproof casing so it can be mounted on the outside of a vehicle (like a truck) that doesn’t have a suitable rear window.

DR750X-2CH DMS Plus

Inludes a Driver Monitoring System to protect from distracted driving. The rear camera faces toward the driver.

DR750X-2CH DMS LTE Plus

Combines Driver Monitoring System and in-built LTE module.

DR750X-3CH Plus

This is the 3 channel version of the DR750X Plus. In addition to recording front and rear, it also records inside of the car with an infrared camera. Great for taxi and Uber drivers.
